MODE | Q+A

Recently I was asked by Amanda, owner of Mode in Oklahoma City, to partner with her boutique and I was so happy she did (#sponsored #ad). I went into the store and shopped around, did a try-on session that you can find saved in my highlights, and experienced the kindness and passion that Amanda and her team bring to Mode. Amanda allowed me to be myself, and put together looks that I loved-staying true to who I was. I loved that she appreciated my honesty and authenticity while still promoting her and her brand- not to mention she really got me out of my comfort zone.

Mode has something for everyone and stays up-to-date on styles and trends- and right now has arguably the best shoe selection in OKC. If you haven’t seen their shoe wall, you’re missing out. I would also like to mention they have a hat wall, you all know how much I love my hats- SOLD! They carry quality brands like Free People and Gorjana but also very affordable options to cater to everyone’s needs. So many pieces are versatile and you can find something for just about any event, vacation, work, and much more. I also loved the unique decor, such as the branch clothing racks, cactus’, and succulents throughout the store and Amanda’s sweet rescue pup, Simba who greeted me!

I had the honor of interviewing Amanda, learning more about her, her background, and what she wants her customers to experience while shopping at Mode. A lot of the times we don’t know who is behind the brand and I think it’s so amazing to learn about the hard work and passion behind what is built!

Q+A with Owner of Mode, Amanda

Q: Tell me a little more about your passion for fashion. When did you realize owning your own store was something you wanted to do?

A: The passion for fashion and keeping up with the latest trends has been there for me since before I can remember. I graduated from high school knowing I wanted to open my own clothing boutique. This desire lead me to the entrepreneurship program at the University of Oklahoma. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a fashion major, but it worked out for the best and I learned the business side of things at OU.

Q: What is Mode’s mission and how do you decide what styles to choose for your store?

A: Mode is my way of helping make the world a better, kinder, more friendly (and fashionable) place. My mission is to connect with people, while using fashion as the unifying force – people, fashion, kindness. I frequently talk with my girls (I don’t like to call them employees) about customers and how they might feel and want to be treated. It’s very important to me that people receive a warm greeting as soon as they walk in the door. We never want to be overbearing, but we want to help find that perfect outfit, gift, pair of shoes, etc. We want to make it easy for the customer. I believe in making real connections and having good conversations. I have had many great conversations with people who walked in as strangers, were able to get something off their chest, and then left as a friend. People will let you in on the hard parts of life if you just give them a caring, listening ear. I stress this aspect of creating relationships to my girls because to me that is truly the most important thing. If we are providing good products and service along with kindness, the rest will come. I’ve never pushed “selling” or “up selling” maybe that’s odd to say as a boutique owner, but that’s just not how I am and never have been.

Mode’s buying decisions are based on a mixture of listening to the customer, knowledge, and homework with a heavy dose of instinct. I am continually learning my customer and how to be a better buyer as the business grows!

Q: What is your goal for your customers, how do you want them to feel when they’re shopping at your store? What’s the first thing you want them to notice?

A: I want customers to find that outfit that makes them feel beautiful and confident, to leave mode feeling better than when they walked in. I want people to feel comfortable, no pressure, come as you are. Meet my awesome girls, they all have really sweet hearts, a good core and are willing to assist in any way. I choose them all carefully and thoughtfully. Meet my dog, Simba, he gives customers kisses and makes them fall in love. People really love him and sometimes come in just to see him (or try to take him home!!) I believe customers enjoy the laid back atmosphere we create. We might be playing Christian music, Shania Twain or whatever is mood boosting that day- we play it all!

I love it when people notice our custom made Birch branch clothing racks or the rope chandelier that I actually made myself. I knew I didn’t want to just buy all my fixtures, I wanted them to be unique, so we made them all!

Q: Is there anything else you want people to know about Mode?

A: We celebrate our 3rd birthday with a big party on April 13th!
